April 10 - 10:40 pm

Success of a day. Mt. Cook is wonderful. Everything I did and saw today was great. Here's the short version:
-Snorers.. Boo! One of you woke me up earlier than I wanted today. 16 more nights sharing bedrooms with strangers.
-Cold morning! I could see my breath. Frosty mist hovered on the fields.
-Early bus ride. 7:15 am. Bus driver was awesome. He acted as tour guide and talked the entire 5 and a half hours to Mt. Cook. He sang a few songs too. Great.
-Turned out to be a beautiful sunny day. Driving over the Canterbury Plains, it was beautiful. Green and beautiful.
-I found the thing I've been searching for to give Conor for his birthday when I get back. Finally found it today!
-Bus stopped at the incredible Lake Tekapo to take photos. Most amazing color. And there were stacked rocks, or cairns all over the shore. Neat.
-Another stop at Lake Pukaki. The iciest blue I've ever seen.
-Mt. Cook off in the distance. All snow covered and tremendous.
-Finnish roommates. The first Finns I've met here. Really nice, and hardly any accent at all.
-Heaps of Japanese tourists. Don't know why. Signs are in Japanese, and they offer tours in Japanese. Hmmm..
-Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre and Museum. Really interesting. Watched a film on Hillary's Everest expedition. Such a cool guy! Going back for more films tomorrow.
-Short hike to Kea Point. Great views of Mt. Cook and the other peaks.
-Stargazing tonight with my hot cocoa. Incredible. Best stargazing I've done here in NZ. I wish I knew more about these stars and constellations!

Bed time. Almost 11. I'm exhausted. Excited to spend another day and a half here!
