For the first time since the red eye flight here, I didn't sleep well. It was a combination of things that made my night restless: being on the third tier of the bunk bed, it was hot, and even with no covers at all, I couldn't get comfortable. Also, the bed was very creaky, and any move by any one of the nine bodies was heard. I woke up some time in the night and could not fall back asleep because of someone's loud snoring. And my bug bites were itching. But, I somehow managed to get some sleep, and felt okay in the morning. It should be better the next two nights - my parents splurged for our own room.
We were planning on going to another beach today, but it was cloudy and cool, and actually a bit rainy this morning, so we waited a bit and then decided to postpone beaching 'til tomorrow. Today, we just spent in town, exploring more of the shops and museums and galleries. I found a wallet that I fell in love with in one of the galleries. I saw it and had to have it. I had thought about getting a new one back home, but there is no chance that I would find anything better than this. Brown leather, perfect size, lovely. A piece of art.. Ha. Oh, and the woman I bought it from was named Bridget. Spelled like that. It was meant to be. So there you have it- my first real New Zealand souvenir.
Before dinner my dad decided to try his luck busking on the main little street by our hostel. He took his harmonica and tin whistle, put out his hat for tips, and played his tunes. Pretty cool dad. I think it's great. He made enough to buy us each a cookie after dinner. Mom and I made spaghetti, and we shared with our buddy Will from England.
