Feb 9 cont. - 11:30 pm

Exhausted. Not sleepy tired, but worn out. It's been quite the day. We did the farmers market, arts and crafts market by the lake - Lake Wakatipu, roamed the city, and headed to Glenorchy, a charming little town about 60km from Queenstown. The drive there was beautiful. We took the windy 2 lane highway that ran right alongside the lake. It was a cute, little town with just a few shops and a wharf. Rumor has it some of The Lord of the Rings was filmed there. But I think they filmed pretty much everywhere in NZ, so what. On our way back to Queenstown we stopped on the side of the road and saw a waterfall up up on the mountain above us. So naturally, we decided to see how close we could get to it. There was actually a trail, so it wasn't too difficult. We came to a different waterfall that must have been just below the one we saw from the road. (see what i mean about my folks being adventurous? ha) It was an incredible little pool. The perfect swimming hole. And if I had had my swimsuit I would have jumped in! But we turned back to the car. Time for a real hike. Or "track" as they call it here. We found a hiking loop just outside town called the Mt. Critchton Loop. Gorgeous trail. All kinds of nature. Another waterfall. Beautiful views of the lake. Just as I imagined NZ to be. I told my mom after the hike that I can't imagine anywhere else in New Zealand being better than this place right here. I'll say it again- it is incredible!
Once we completed the 3 hour loop, which included a stop at the Sam Summers old mining cabin, we were famished and ready for some burgers! Note: this trip is turning into the biggest loser. We eat a bowl of cereal for breakfast, a granola bar for lunch, and a sensible meal at dinner time. That's all we can afford. And then we walk and hike and play all day. I may come back weighing 30 lbs less. Anyway, we went to Fergburger. (Okay, maybe i wont lose any weight.) It was packed with customers day and night, and came highly recommended by my friend Megan. So we tried it. Huge NZ beef burgers! Delicious! Thank you Megan!
Getting wifi has been somewhat of a struggle here. The Internet kinda sucks here at our hostel, and you have to pay for it. We tried McDonald's and it would not work for some reason. Starbucks was the winner tonight. Thanks to that blessed coffee shop we now know where we can go to church tomorrow!
Side note: I'm sunburned. My arms and neck. Sunburned in February. It's fantastic.
