Feb 19 - 9 pm

Two things today. One: we made Italian toast for breakfast this morning. Never heard of it? Oh, it's just French toast made with garlic bread because you didn't check to see what kind of bread you were using.. Mmmmmm. Quite interesting flavor. The pungent garlic with the sweet maple flavored syrup. I can't say I'd intentionally make it again, but we ate every piece we cooked. My parents and I talked about what we thought the judges on Chopped would say about it. Probably that it was an "interesting mix of flavors.. Not creative enough though. Presentation was impressive." Yeah, something like that.
And two: Dad's last day with us in NZ. He wanted to go to another beach. So we headed to the prettiest little beach about an hour away - Kaiteriteri. Warm, sunny day, light breeze. I did not want to burn, so I made sure to put on sunscreen soon after we got there. I soaked up the sun though, spent a good amount of time laying out. I swam a bit. The water was cool, but not freezing. PB & H for lunch. We moved to a different part of the beach, and I reapplied my sunscreen. By then, I was looking a little red, so I huddled up under my towel, shirt, rain jacket, and scarf. I really was trying to be so careful. But the sun here is a wicked monster.. On the drive home I could feel my legs and feet melting. When I got out of the car, I saw the damage. The backs of my legs- fried. Tops of my feet- splotchy red. Knees, thighs, shins- burned. I thought that was bad. A few hours later I saw that my stomach, chest, and right arm also got some color. Not fun. Painful. Miserable. And my mom and I were supposed to go to the Golden Bay tomorrow to play on the beach.. I guess now I'll just be chilling in the shade. A kiwi lady later told us that the sun is closer to NZ than any other country. I guess that means this time of year.. If it's true, I can't believe I hadn't heard that before. But I kinda believe it after my sun experience today.. I got me some Aloe Vera and more sunscreen. Better luck next time.
