A full day of tourist activity. Started early - Ganesh dropped me off in the city at 9. I hit up the national library first thing, and then I took a tour of the parliament buildings. That was neat because it's like their White House and Washington DC. They were cool old buildings too, and one newer one that was cylindrical, which they called The Beehive.
From there I went to Old St. John's Church - neat exposed wood chapel.
I walked over to the bottom of the cable car and rode that up to the top, where there is a good lookout of the city and an entrance to the Wellington Botanic Garden. I was at the lookout enjoying the PB and J on homemade bread that Ganesh packed for me to take for lunch, when I heard my phone ringing and saw the name Dad light up. From home! It was mom and dad! I got to talk to them for a few minutes, and that was pretty cool. They just miss New Zealand, obviously.
I walked through the gardens, ran into my roommate from Nomads - again. Still don't know her name, but I wish I did because I keep running into her! The gardens were really nice, but not quite as wonderful as the natural beauty I've seen here, down on the South Island. From there I headed over to the Wellington Museum of City and Sea. I actually really liked that museum. It showed what New Zealand was going through each year of the twentieth century, how it was changing. And there was a lot on maritime and then just old life in New Zealand. Lots of history!
And then to Te Papa to mooch wifi. It was being really spotty though, so that was a let down.
I was really hungry, even though I had eaten a good breakfast and lunch, so I went to a little pizza place and got a large margherita pizza, because on Mondays the large is as much as a small.. I didn't think I was going to eat the whole thing, but I did. Even after I dumped some sugar on part of it by accident. Why would they have sugar in a jar that looked like Parmesan cheese on the table at a pizza place?! It made those pieces taste a little weird, but I still ate them. The pizza really wasn't that big, and the crust was cracker thin!
After dinner, I met the other kids at the institute building downtown for FHE. It was fine. Just a short lesson, treats, some games. All really nice people. Ganesh was there, because his calling is YSA something. So yeah, fun day! Tomorrow I want to go to the beach if it's warm enough. I hope it's sunny!
